Watercolour and pastel on semi-transparent Japanese paper.

In this work, I painted white hens on delicate green Japanese paper, almost transparent. The subtle red shadows were enhanced with pastel, adding depth and contrast. The contemporary composition is elevated by the framing — a green mat with a red background layer beneath the artwork, creating space that highlights the irregular, fibrous edges of the paper. A bold red wooden frame and museum glass complete the piece.

The interplay of green, red, and vivid white forms creates a striking visual effect. This colour palette — one of my favourites since my student years — continues to inspire me and has re-emerged in my recent work.

To me, this piece feels exceptionally successful and very contemporary. I look forward to continuing these experiments, and I hope the viewer feels the same excitement.
