Wrought

In the three pieces that make up the Skein series, I started with a set of early 20th century cabinet cards of three women from the same family. I discovered each is wearing the same large medallion around their necks and decided to key in on this element. In the Met Open Access Archives, I found a Victorian mourning brooch in which the hair matched that of the women in Wrought. I wanted to explore the nature of inheritance and what carries forward with women through generations. 

In Wrought, I reconstructed the cabinet card of the oldest woman, layering in the faces of her daughter and granddaughter. Then, I placed the mourning brooch in the center of the piece. It appears in each piece of the tryptic, tying them together.
