Loretta Kaltenhauser's 'Bridging the Gap' encapsulates the essence of modern abstract with its robust texture and a symphony of colors. It serves as an imaginative conduit between spaces, thoughts, and emotions with its large-scale presence. The intermingling shades of blue, grey, red, and amber create a vivid landscape that can transform any interior, infusing it with energy and a touch of the sublime. Sides of canvas are painted black.
As a contemporary, award-winning artist, Loretta expresses her visions in a spontaneous and direct fashion. Acrylic paint is layered, subtracted and manipulated using palette knives, brushes and scrapers to synthesize an intricate and distinct tableau.
Colors and shapes take on an energy of their own and each layer she adds reinterprets her thoughts and emotions.
Loretta works with the passion that her motifs, their essence, will stimulate the mind's eye of the observer.
She is originally from Belleville, Ontario, has lived most of her life in Toronto, and now resides in Cobourg, Ontario with her husband John, also a professional artist.
Loretta has now been creating full time for the last twelve years, and in that time has established herself as an accomplished contemporary artist with collectors worldwide.
As a self-taught artist, Kaltenhauser is fearless and approaches her work with respect but without ceremony. Her vision seems unclouded, uncluttered. Perhaps it's her open attitude that allows her a certain freedom.
Over time, but within her own timelines, Kaltenhauser has embraced her abstract style – a style that exudes life and shimmers with color and textures from the weathered and organic to the sleek and contemporary, and a style that reflects that of an artist who has found her calling.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
" I strive to combine the aesthetic feel of ancient and modern using a bold mix of styles, ranging from sleek and contemporary to weathered and organic. Using brushes and palette knives, I create works that are abstract or have landscape elements to them. My goal is not to document subjects or to make statements, but to make an emotional connection with the viewer allowing them to explore their own spirit and inspire them as well. "
