This wheel-thrown vase is crafted from two halves that were joined and altered in shape. The surface of this vase is adorned with multiple layers of colored slip, glaze, and washes of cobalt. These intricate layers accentuate the organic curves of the vase, infusing it with emotion and personality, and lending depth to its form.
Maegan June Collins is an emerging Canadian artist who explores themes of gender, cultural identity and belonging through her work with ceramics. After graduating with a BLA from the University of Guelph in 2021, she continued to study craft and design at the Kootenay School of Art in 2022. In her current body of work, Maegan is developing a series of vessels that address the challenging realities of gender-based violence, marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey.
