Fear-inducing vulnerability in personal expression creates coexisting traits that form an illusion of distorted identity, presented in my work by fragmented faces. Using acrylic, texture, and woven canvas allowed me to cathartically present certain dimensions whilst concealing others. In carving my honest feelings into the portraits, my final work represents the intricacies of emotion and is true to self. My works experimental weaves reflect the process of self discovery and is used as a sort of therapeutic outlet.

We live in a world where I, as a female, feel overwhelmed by surrounding pressures which has led to positions of low self esteem and a sense of desperation, particularly how it relates to the way I feel that women are treated in our society. This work was created as a personal therapeutic outlet, as a relatable work of art for the countless other women in my shoes, as well as to allow for a space to promote and highlight this pervasive societal injustice. This work allows the viewer a portal into someone’s life. A woman suffering under the pressures and expectations of society and the negative impact that that has on oneself and on the people around them. The irony being in her ability to care for the life around her but not being able to care for herself.

I created work that portrays strong emotions, personally, and societally represents and perhaps confronts the "traditional duties" of women. I definitely think hands tell the story of human beings and are very powerful imagery when representing the human subject. The dark colour scheme offers a sense of drama that one would not usually associate with such mundane, simple tasks.
For me, squeezing a sponge is gross. Even looking at this image gives me a very visceral reaction. From a societal point of view, the sponge represents the "woman's duty to clean".
