Acrylic and mixed medium on wood panel (framed).
13x13"
This piece was evoked by an awakening I felt after a challenging time, when finally inspiration took over. It reminded me how strong we really are, like nature itself, we can persevere.
Note: The frame is white, 1 cm around the wood panel.
Irma is an abstract intuitive artist who uses acrylic paint and mixed mediums to express her work including wax crayon, charcoal, graphite pencil and collage into her pieces. Irma enhances her pieces with mark making to achieve intriguing textures using a variety of tools such as metal scrapers, pointed tips, silicone brushes, sandpaper, and taping.
Her inspiration comes from early in life in a tiny village at the base of the striking Julian Alps where she was immersed in nature daily as a child. Although she left her homeland, she continues to feel the gravitational pull towards the cool alpine air overlooking cliffs, nearby summits, and viridescent mountain lakes. Over the years this longing has become an inviting escape from life’s woes and a celebration of triumphs by exploring new hiking adventures and capturing these memories on canvas. The feelings she conveys in her artwork is the wonder, the peace and the mystery high up on the mountains, a place where one feels both captivated and serene. Irma also enjoys the whimsical and mysterious part of life and enjoys capturing characters or emotions of day to day life.
Irma is a self-taught artist who has developed her emerging art practice by participating in various international workshops including Nicholas Wilton’s intensive 3-month Art2Life Creative Visionary Program. Her work has been included in various Visual Arts Mississauga theme shows where she also acts as a volunteer. Irma enjoys continuing her journey in her art practice by engaging in new learning opportunities to enhance her skills and by participating in art groups, one of which she has founded, to enrich her connection with others who have the same love for art making, to support artists, and share stories.
