Anne Cavanagh studied in the United States and Europe, obtaining a BA in Pre-Medical
Illustration (2004). Recent exhibitions include Connections (an exhibit by the
Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute, University of Alberta), HeART of HealthCARE
(Healthcare Excellence Canada), the Art Gallery of Northumberland’s 43rd Juried
Exhibition in Cobourg, Ontario, the 7th Biennial Alumni Art Exhibition (VAB Gallery,
University of West Georgia, Carrolton, Georgia, USA.), Breath, Heart, Spirit: Celebrating
150 Years of the Ontario Society of Artists (Glenhyrst Art Gallery, Brantford, Ontario),
Drawing 2018: An Annual Juried Exhibit Showcasing Drawings by Contemporary
Canadian Artists (John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto, Ontario), Women Painting Women
(R)Evolution (Townsend Atelier, Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA), Instructor Series Solo
Exhibition (Art Gallery of Peterborough) and Not a Drop to Drink: Water Politics and
Scarcity in the 21st Century (Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto).
Past awards and grants include a Drawing Master Class Scholarship at the New York
Academy of Arts, an Artists in Education Grant through the Ontario Arts Council, and
publication in Strokes of Genius 7: The Best of Drawing (North Light Books, Rachel Rubin
Wolf, Cincinnati, OH, USA) and the Prisma Colour Illustration Award. Cavanagh was the
Director of the Ontario Society of Artists Eastern Hub from 2018-2021. In 2023 she co-
curated Ambient Landscapes at the Art Gallery of Northumberland and juror for the
Ontario Society of Artists Annual Juried Exhibit at John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My drawings take many hours to create but the initial concept and final work is after a moment of response to nature. Using gesture and line, I create an immediacy, reflective of our times and paradox to the time-consuming process of classical drawing. Acting as a bridge between past traditions of rendering and contemporary fine art.
