The focus was on portraying the lilac shadows against the bright white highlights. The legend, the icon, the immortal...Frida Kahlo! For all her fame and genius, this is how I see Frida; surrounded by her birds and monkeys and flowers. Always flowers. She belongs to them as much as they belong to her. This painting was done in acrylic and soft pastels.

This floral painting of irises is my ode to spring and love of gardening. It was created in an impressionist, almost abstract style with very frantic dynamic brushstrokes to imitate the flowing movements of iris petals. A palette knife was used for the highlights and gold paint was used for the center of the flowers to contrast with the purples and pinks. The background and the flower buds are my favourite part of this painting.

An ode to the Wild West vistas depicted in contemporary shows such as "Yellowstone" and "The English". The mountains were done by a heavy application of oil using a palette knife. The texture is such that they almost jut out of the canvas making them the focal point. The bison were added as a background element and to portray a sense of nostalgia.

This painting done with an emphasis on warmer hues of reds, yellow and orange against a dark jungle-y background will brighten up any space. The oversized, almost surreal tropical flowers were created using smoother brushstrokes are juxtaposed against a background of interlocking leaves that were painted with a more dynamic brushstroke technique. The dragonfly provides another focal point for the painting and evokes an almost calming effect when contrasted with the burst of color from the flowers.

This painting is an amalgamation of different images. The dark and moody background and the jug are contrasted with the brightness of the fruit. Smooth static brushstrokes were used with highlights and shadows to indicate the reflection of the fruit on the jug and table. This will make a nice addition to a kitchen or dining area.

Loosely based on a photograph by one of my favorite National Geographic photographers, Stephen Wilkes, this painting was done using Winsor and Newton water-mixable oil paints. I love stormy skies and in another life I might have been a storm chaser. The focal point is the overwhelming and almost cavernous, cloud-filled sky. This is juxtaposed with the horse, intentionally painted in a much smaller scale to give the sense of distance and being swallowed up by the sky. The image is almost peaceful for all its ominous undertones.

Cornwall has always been on my bucket list of places to visit. I saw an image of these mines a few years ago and I just fell in love. I used a variety of palette knife and quick, dynamic brush stroke techniques to depict the waves crashing on the cliffs and to capture the mines in their lonely, ruined state. This painting is for anyone who loves the wild Cornish coastline.
