ARTIST’S STATEMENT

In this series of work "Paper Dolls" I am combining abstract composition with the memories of childhood; of innocence and belief in fantasy. These tableaus centre the photo memory of place and childhood within the expressive abstract construct of emotions which surround them. The perception of childhood memories versus the reality of lived trauma and recovery is at the core of my investigation. The element of pure abstraction creates the underpinning of sentiment that surround our memories. These images are the visual catharsis of lived shame and hurt that lead to a lifetime journey of understanding.
