Within this diptych, I am to depict the Immense personal transformation that transpires during liminality. This is a mental space where the body can begin to feel unstable as you questions your internal belief system as well as the structures on which the world is built around you. Despite the pain brought on by liminality, it is also a chance for discovery and recreative power. The ghostly figure represents the past and future self, someone familiar yet featureless and undefined. The fire is a powerful and inescapable sign of transformation that beckons you to accept what once was and embrace what is yet to come.
Danielle Vincent is a Toronto-based artist specializing in oil painting. Her practice concerns the search for certainty and stability in the unknown of transitional periods. With her realistic renderings of familiar, domestic spaces, she creates an entrance and exit to the in-between spaces found in everyday life that invite the viewer to create personal narratives and reflect on their thoughts and feelings about change and transition.
Vincent has exhibited her work across Ontario and has been awarded first place in multiple juried exhibitions. She is a recipient of theFirst Grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. Vincent completed her BFA in Drawing and Painting at OCAD University.
