MJ is an award-winning emerging artist working mostly in acrylic, digital and watercolour as a way to inspire others to see better through the power of mindfulness. She’s intrigued by the nuances between looking and seeing. Keeping in mind that we don’t see things as they are, but rather as we are, she’s also interested in the participation of the viewers as an important component of her creative process.
She has a passion for mindfulness, personal growth, conscious relationships and natural sciences. Dedicated to inspire people to know themselves more deeply and better connect with their surroundings, she creates to better understand the world and study people, ideas and places through her sketches, drawings and paintings, always looking for connections.
She wishes to convey a sense of human connection, curiosity, wonder, awe, and happiness with her artworks and teachings. Her goal is to help people connect with themselves, their minds and others through art.
MJ grew up in Montreal and currently lives in Toronto.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I create to better understand my surroundings and to uncover the mysteries behind people, nature, places and how they relate to one another. I study them through my sketches, words, drawings and paintings, looking for meaningful connections.
I tend to paint a lot of cloud scenes. They are visual meditation pieces, exploring the interactions between the viewers’ mind and the art. I have an obsession with finding meaning behind my subjects : looking for the unseen and bringing them into light for others to see more.
Creating art makes me feel more connected to people because I feel I understand them (and myself) better. I wish to convey a sense of human connection, curiosity, wonder, awe, and peace with my art. Uplifting people’s spirit through my art energizes me. Knowing that there’s a chance that my art can help others appreciate life more gives me a great sense of purpose.
