Cheung’s journey into the world of art began under the tutelage of a renowned Chinese painting master, where he honed his skills in the delicate art of ink and water painting. Over time, he seamlessly integrated the swift and robust brushwork of Chinese painting into his western oils and watercolours, creating an aesthetic unique to him.
He believes that good art should allow the viewer to look ‘into’ it rather than just ‘at’ it. This philosophy is a fundamental part of his artistic approach. Cheung’s work is designed to create a connection with the viewer, allowing them to experience the energy, life force, and movement encapsulated within each piece.
