Bill Lunshof
Newmarket based fine artist Bill Lunshof grew up in a Dutch immigrant family and had an interest in the visual arts from an early age. Also an avid gardener and photographer, Bill’s work takes much of its inspiration from nature. He has been painting for the last 12 years. He is a member of two local art groups – Newmarket Group of Artists and Society of York Region Artists.
Bill paints in water soluble oils. He likes to portray rural Ontario and often includes old barns, houses and buildings in his work. He is fascinated by how light affects the landscape and tries to capture that in his work. He also enjoys painting en Plein Air and can be found with his easel set up in and around his home town of Newmarket when the weather allows.

I painted this piece on a Zoom workshop with John David Anderson, a well know contemporary Canadian artist. It was during the first winter of COVID and I was going a little stir crazy so I thought I'd try something new. Turned out to be a great experience and I did a few more over the course of that winter.

I've been obsessed lately with the old masters and paintings with a nocturnal look about them. This is a modern take on that look and incorporates a winter element.
