COURTNEY FAIRWEATHER
I am a multi-media artist, who uses whatever materials can best embody my ideas. I enjoy experimenting, constantly expanding my range. I am introspective and curious about the world around me. When travelling, my camera is a faithful companion; when at rest, my images mutate to form personal perspectives of what I encounter. Painting allows me to explore not only my inner self but also the work of all that has influenced me over the years. As a fibre and collage artist, a printmaker and sculptor, I carry worlds, which ask to be shared.
Growing up on an island off the west coast of Canada, I absorbed the beauty of the rough, wild ocean and the jutting shoreline. Although I'm no longer there physically, that environment remains a part of me. So too does northern Europe, where I lived for almost 20 years among the splendour and the grime of centuries, a place where the accretion of humanity seeped into my being. Also, I travel extensively, absorbing and shedding the world around me in a process of constant change.
The transformation of all these places and experiences comes together in the city of Toronto, Ontario, a place of refuge from my wandering ways.
