Dan Coward
Dan Coward is a self-taught artist based out of Montreal. Born into a family of painters, his passion for drawing evolved into his foundation as a graffiti artist and an eventual pursuit into the art world.
Whether painting a scenic landscape or exploring themes of electric media, his graffiti roots can be felt in his expressive brushstrokes and methodical colour composition. A strong understanding of technique and the fundamentals of painting gives his work a unique combination of modern and classical approaches.
From studying the masters, to literature, film, and golden age comic books. His work constantly draws inspiration from his surroundings and these influences can be felt in his constant evolution as an artist.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I look for beauty in everyday life and constantly absorb what’s around me, looking for things that inspire me.
My work can be described as a “slice of life.” Highlighting the beauty of everyday life scenes that often go overlooked.
I slowly build up texture on my work with thin layers of solvent, before moving onto an oil medium and finishing touches of pure paint. Every painting provides me with new challenges and surprises that make each work unique.
