Lea Singh
I am a representational oil painter, and I paint every day from my home studio in beautiful Ottawa, Ontario. I am something of an 'accidental artist', with a background in law. My painting journey began in 2020, when I started learning to paint during the pandemic. I loved the process of creating a world on canvas with beautiful colors! Soon I started daily paintng, and continued my education through online art courses and many books.
In 2022, I joined the Artists of Stonebridge, a local group of visual artists, and through this group I have started taking part in art shows and exhibiting in local venues. Nothing gives me more joy than sharing my art with others, and I look forward to growing as an artist over the years to come.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My inspiration comes primarily from daily domestic life, where I enjoy exploring the often overlooked beauty of everyday objects. In a busy world where we often focus on functionality and practicality, my still life paintings invite the viewer to slow down and enjoy a delicious moment of beauty, calm and joy.
I paint in the alla prima method, which involves working directly from a real-life setup, because I love responding to the mood, patterns of light and range of colors in the live scene before me. I paint with a vibrant palette and bold, juicy strokes that leave a texture on the canvas.
