ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I am a fine art photographer who channels a love for trees and their flowers into shimmering images that resemble early forms of photography such as daguerreotypes or tintypes. When I spend time in nature, I am captivated by the way light streams through the tree canopy and how sunshine glows through the flower petals. I bring these striking qualities of light into my work by printing on transparent film and layering the images over metal leaf. The metallic backgrounds flicker and change according to light conditions lending the work an ephemeral quality.

Inspired by the physical beauty and symbolic meaning of tree flowers I explore how they mark time, herald spring and remind us of how precious and temporal life is. The fleeting nature of blossoms serve as a prompt to cherish life in each moment. By capturing the short-lived blooms, I provide a means for the viewer to enjoy the delightful and refreshing vitality of spring all year long.
