Tere Cuellar
I love to study light and feelings with paint and I’m pretty obsessed with color theories. I’m a self-taught artist who followed her passion for painting after moving to Edmonton. I’m constantly exploring new ways of expressing emotions in oil paint. I often work with portrait and figurative photos where the sunlight plays the leading role.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In my way to understand the color theories, I found myself using just the Zorn’s palette on my first subjects. Some of my recent artworks are two or three-colors palette studies. A limited palette gives me the countless variations of hues. It is magical to experiment and understand the relationship between hues, placing a color besides others.
The light is very present at my artworks as well as the hands. Both of them have a resonance beyond their surfaces. All of my subjects are telling me a story and I love to capture those emotions and find my own path to express them.
