Standing Up for the Alliston Aquifer: Responsibility

This year, after completing my art residency and our group visit to the Alliston Aquifer area, I created this painting. Experiencing the landscape firsthand — its quiet fragility and its importance as a source of clean underground water — deeply shaped the direction of this work.
Most of my friends had never heard of the Alliston aquifer, nor did they realize
how unique and vulnerable it is. I was the same until I visited and learned more about it. This experience made me reflect on how easily something so essential to life — like clean water — can be overlooked or taken for granted. For me, painting is a way to raise awareness. I chose the language of symbols, color, and composition to speak about responsibility — a personal responsibility of each individual, even when facing something as large as a corporation or system.
