The meadow behind our home fills with Prairie Coneflowers in late August. I captured the moments when the last shaft of sunlight lights it all up.
Newmarket based fine artist Bill Lunshof grew up in a Dutch immigrant family and had an interest in the visual arts from an early age. Also an avid gardener and photographer, Bill’s work takes much of its inspiration from nature. He has been painting for the last 12 years. He is a member of two local art groups – Newmarket Group of Artists and Society of York Region Artists.
Bill paints in water soluble oils. He likes to portray rural Ontario and often includes old barns, houses and buildings in his work. He is fascinated by how light affects the landscape and tries to capture that in his work. He also enjoys painting en Plein Air and can be found with his easel set up in and around his home town of Newmarket when the weather allows.

This piece was painted en plein air just after dinner one night. I was enjoying the patterns of the wheat field but by the time I was half way through it was the patterns of the leaves and trees that was equally intriquing.
I challenged myself one day to paint a portrait in one sitting. I'd had this picture for a long time but was intrigued by his face. I cheated and went back a second time to add some highlights but am happy with the result.
I've been getting out more to paint en Plein Aire. My friend has a wonderful property with a large pond and I painted this while the sun was illuminating the reeds on the other side on a peaceful summer evening.
Another piece in my Paris Series. I love everything about Paris. The people are so stylish and the street life is so vibrant. I fell in love with this wonderful blue door and waited for someone interesting to walk out of it.
