Artistic Vision: In Crux and Canopy, I investigate the intersection of human movement and ancient geology. Drawing from personal experiences on the trails of Alberta, this piece uses gestural acrylic layers to mimic the textures of lichen-covered stone and the fluid clarity of mountain lakes.

The Story Behind the Work: The work was conceived as a tribute to the "ascent." The energetic lines represent the calculated path of a climber, while the blocks of colour evoke the overwhelming scale of the Alpine environment. By removing a fixed horizon line, I invite the viewer to experience the painting from multiple perspectives—much like a climber navigating a rock face.
