ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I am learning from nature what life doesn't speak about.
My work is the unconscious expression of what has marked me or someone I know. What inspires me is Peace and Love but I often use abstract and surreal nature as my main symbolic metaphor for the mood or emotions I want to express.

This acrylic painting explores the quiet, transformative power of moonlight. Through soft pastel tones of blue, silver, gray, and light brown, I aimed to capture the way moonlight gently illuminates the darkness of night, casting a serene, ethereal glow over the landscape. The painting depicts the moon's light spreading across the land, turning the shadowed earth into a dreamlike world bathed in subtle shades of cool blues and warm silvery hues.

The moonlight is both a source of illumination and a metaphor for the quiet moments of clarity and peace that can emerge in stillness. It can brighten the world's darkest corners, turning familiar landscapes into something soft, mysterious, and otherworldly. The muted colours of the painting—blues, grays, and light browns—reflect the calmness and quiet beauty that moonlight brings, evoking a sense of calm, introspection, and serenity.

Through this work, I wanted to capture the fleeting beauty of the night, when the world feels both distant and intimately close, bathed in the soft, silver light of the moon. The painting invites the viewer to pause and reflect on the natural beauty that exists in the quiet moments between day and night, where light and shadow dance together in perfect harmony. It is a reminder of how the simplest elements of nature—light, space, and time—can hold profound moments of peace and wonder.

This oil painting is a reflection on the cyclical journey of meditation and self-discovery, presented through abstract expression. The work invites the viewer to rotate the canvas, each turn revealing a different layer of emotional experience—four distinct states that represent the internal process of confronting, shedding, and ultimately finding peace within oneself.

At the heart of the painting is the idea that meditation is not a linear experience but a fluid, dynamic process of transformation. As the viewer turns the painting, they encounter four abstract representations that shift in mood and symbolism:

- **The first rotation** reveals a joyful, abstract yogi, embodying the peace and clarity that meditation can bring when the mind is aligned and still.
- **The second rotation** shifts the focus to a shelter-like, tipi form, symbolizing the comfort and protection found in the inward journey—a place of safety and refuge where one can retreat and reflect.
- **The third rotation** introduces a sadder yogi, a figure that reflects the vulnerability and emotional release that often comes during meditation—facing and confronting the darker, more challenging parts of the self.
- **The final rotation** shows a masked figure, representing the layers of identity and persona we wear, perhaps hiding the true self or the complexities of how we present ourselves to the world.

This circle of rotation mirrors the cycle of meditation itself—moving through states of calm, reflection, sadness, and hidden identity, all with the aim of shedding masks and discovering a deeper truth. It speaks to the emotional journey that I, as an independent woman in a man’s world, often experience—the push and pull between societal expectations, personal strength, vulnerability, and the constant process of self-revelation. There is not alot of information out there about how to understand a female body and it's abilities. It's a constant emotional struggle.

Each turn of the painting is a metaphor for how meditation brings clarity and understanding of the self. It is a continuous cycle, a way of unraveling one’s internal landscape, shedding layers, and returning to a place of centeredness, only to start again. The four abstract figures—joyful, sheltered, sad, and masked—are not fixed states but phases that reflect the multifaceted nature of human emotion, especially the complex emotional landscape of being a woman navigating the world. Through this work, I invite viewers to consider their own meditative practices and the layers of identity they too are discovering and reshaping in their own journeys.

This painting is an aerial exploration of the Saskatchewan River in Edmonton, capturing the delicate interplay between the river’s ice and water as the seasons shift. The image presents a top-down view of the landscape, revealing the intricate patterns formed by the river's frozen surface and the dynamic relationship between the ice, water, and land. From this elevated perspective, the blocks of ice float and fragment, their forms constantly changing as the temperature ebbs and flows. They are both grounded and fluid, caught between the warmth of the season and the cold of winter, constantly reshaping themselves as they interact with the river below.

The natural rhythm of the river is at the heart of this piece—how it reacts to the cycles of nature, how it breathes and shifts through the seasons. The blocks of ice, with their organic shapes, are rendered with a sense of quiet beauty, reflecting the intricate textures of the frozen surface as they drift and break apart. The soft, gradual melting of the ice, or its freezing as the temperature drops, brings forth a sense of delicate transformation. It’s a visual representation of nature’s subtle changes—sometimes slow, sometimes abrupt—but always in motion.

The landscape is framed by the banks of the river, where trees reach towards the sky and form subtle silhouettes against the background. The scene is serene yet full of life, capturing the quiet tension between the cold stillness of the ice and the ever-changing flow of the water beneath. The subtle palette of whites, soft blues, and grays is designed to reflect the cold clarity of winter, while the slight warmth that emerges from the river and surrounding earth hints at the coming of spring.

Through this piece, I wanted to evoke the timeless and fragile beauty of nature’s cycles. The way the ice forms and melts, the way the river shifts and changes—it’s a meditation on the passage of time and the delicate balance that exists between the forces of nature. The painting invites the viewer to pause and reflect on the quiet majesty of these moments, and to appreciate the stunning complexity and beauty of the world seen from above.

Acrylic and spray paint on canvas.

This painting is an exploration of green energy—both as a concept and as a feeling. Using a combination of spray paint and acrylics, I sought to create an abstract composition that embodies the tension between being grounded in reality and drifting into a dreamlike vision of a greener, more sustainable lifestyle. The layers of paint work together to invite the viewer into a space where the boundaries of what is real and what is possible are blurred, encouraging a shift in perception toward something brighter, more unknown, more hopeful.

The rich, varied greens in the piece evoke the vitality of nature, while also symbolizing growth, renewal, and the energy that comes from connecting with the earth. These colors are meant to lift the spirits, acting as a visual metaphor for the rejuvenating power of living in harmony with the planet. The fluidity and texture of the paint suggest movement—whether the organic flow of leaves in the wind, or the pulse of energy that comes with embracing a lifestyle that nurtures both ourselves and the world around us.

The abstraction allows for a sense of freedom, inviting the viewer to let go of rigid structures and embrace a more open, imaginative way of thinking. It’s a visual call to dream of a greener future, to envision a life that is less bound by convention and more attuned to the rhythms of the earth. The layers of spray paint and acrylic not only add depth and texture to the work, but also create a dynamic push and pull between the solid, grounded shapes and the more ethereal, airy spaces in between.

In essence, this piece is about reconnection—reconnecting with the earth, with possibility, and with the dreams of a more sustainable, greener tomorrow. It’s an invitation to let go of what we think we know and open ourselves to the beauty and energy that comes from living in balance with the natural world.

This painting is a tribute to the timeless, evergreen energy of plants—those living beings that bring life, comfort, and vibrancy to any space, no matter the season. In this piece, I explore the way plants transcend the physical environment they inhabit, creating a sense of warmth and tropical energy even on the coldest, darkest days. The lush greenery of the leaves seems to pulse with vitality, their movements captured in fluid brushstrokes that convey the quiet yet powerful way they communicate with one another.

The texture and color of the leaves in this work reflect their ability to cheer up a room, infusing it with an uplifting energy that persists even when the world outside is still. I wanted to capture how plants, often seen as quiet observers, create a dynamic presence—how their subtle movements, whether caused by a gentle breeze or the shifting of light, seem to speak to one another and bring life into the space around them. There is a tropical warmth in their energy that provides comfort, even when the external world feels cold and distant.

Through the layers of acrylics, I aim to highlight the deep connection plants offer to our emotions and well-being, showing how they fill a room with a kind of quiet joy, a reassurance that life is constantly renewing itself. They are more than mere decor—they are companions, silently encouraging us to take a breath, settle into the present, and bask in the simple, green vitality they offer. Whether day or night, the plants' evergreen energy is a reminder of the resilience of nature and the beauty of growth in all its forms.

This painting captures the warmth and intimacy of human connection through the abstraction of figures gathered in conversation at a bar. The figures are softened, fragmented, and blended into the textures and colors of the piece, allowing their presence to be felt rather than explicitly seen. The rich sienna tones and wood-like textures evoke a sense of grounding, warmth, and comfort—creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and belonging. The subtle use of texture, reminiscent of the edges of wood, symbolizes both the natural and imperfect aspects of our relationships, the way we smooth out the rough patches and come together with our unique histories and experiences.

At the heart of this work is the simple yet profound act of socializing with friends. In a world that often feels fractured and fast-paced, moments spent in true connection can become rare and precious. The figures in this scene may be abstracted, but their shared space, energy, and conversation reflect the beauty of friendship—how it can nourish us, hold us, and bring warmth even in times of uncertainty.

The act of "knowing each other’s edges" is central to this piece. Just as the textures and layers of the painting reveal subtle variations in surface and depth, so too do our friendships reveal the complexity of who we are—the roughness, the softness, and everything in between. It is in these differences, these edges, that true connection happens. By celebrating with those we cherish, by sitting together and sharing moments of joy and vulnerability, we embrace the richness of life.

Through this abstract rendering, I aim to highlight how essential it is to nurture and honor these connections—to make space for friends, to listen, laugh, and love, and to be reminded of the warmth that comes when we gather in each other's presence.

In this painting, I explore the theme of release and transformation. The abstract figure looks like a bicylcle at the edge of a bridge, pulling away and moving forward, yet held back by the ropes on an abstract bridge of life that represent the fears, doubts, and limitations we often place on ourselves. The act of letting go—the conscious choice to release what binds us—is central to this work. The bridge, with its inviting yet uncertain path, symbolizes the crucial moments in life when we must face the unknown, take risks, and overcome the obstacles that keep us anchored.

The figures is not hesitating or living in fear, but is fierce in a quiet reflection of the human movement: the tension between staying in a familiar space and venturing into new possibilities is obvious. Yet, the ropes and chains, rendered with fluid and almost playful brushstrokes, suggest that the very forces that seem to restrict us are often more malleable than we think.

Through this painting, I want to convey the importance of not taking life too seriously—of approaching challenges with a playful mindset, allowing us to move through them with greater fluidity and less resistance. Letting go doesn't have to be a struggle; it can be a empowering and a supportive, playful release, an invitation to cross the bridge that calls to us. In embracing this attitude, we find the courage to move forward, embracing the weight and pushing forward to step into the possibilities of what lies ahead.

This painting captures a moment of movement and resilience, an abstract figure running alongside a flock of magpies. The figure, though not fully defined, is a representation of anyone on a journey—facing obstacles, yet determined to move forward. The magpies, with their wings spread wide, serve as symbols of freedom, instinct, and the ability to rise above challenges.

In this piece, the interplay between the figure and the birds speaks to the idea that, no matter the struggles or setbacks we face, it is crucial to remain steadfast and fly towards what truly matters. The magpies are more than just birds; they represent the forces of inspiration and perseverance that guide us, even when the path is unclear. The figure’s motion is both fluid and purposeful, reflecting the idea that movement—whether physical or emotional—is a way of embracing life’s uncertainties and staying focused on what is worth pursuing.

This work is a reminder to trust in the journey and in the strength to overcome, no matter how daunting the obstacles. Like the magpies in flight, we too have the power to soar towards our purpose and find freedom in the pursuit of what we love.

Description of "Fall Trees"
"Fall Trees" captures the essence of autumn through a vibrant interplay of colors and textures. Using a palette knife, I’ve created an expressive representation of the stunning landscapes found in Alberta's wetlands. This piece showcases the beauty of leafless trees, their stumps revealing intricate shapes and rich hues that emerge during the fall season. The swirling colors evoke a sense of movement and emotion, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the transformative power of nature as it transitions into winter.

Artist Statement
In my work, I strive to transcend the boundaries of realism, focusing instead on emotional expression through color and form. "Fall Trees" is a reflection of my fascination with the beauty found in Alberta’s wetlands, particularly the stunning trees that stand resilient even as they shed their leaves. The vibrant colors of autumn serve as a backdrop for my exploration of shapes and textures, where the stumps of the trees become a canvas of emotion.

By employing a palette knife, I am able to create dynamic layers that convey depth and movement, allowing the viewer to experience the scene not just visually, but emotionally. This painting embodies my belief that art should evoke feelings and provoke thought, inviting a personal connection with the natural world. Through "Fall Trees," I aim to celebrate the beauty in change and the emotions that accompany the cycles of nature. Enjoy! Thanks.

In this piece, I sought to capture the ephemeral beauty of a twilight dance, where sky and earth meet in a symphony of color. With each stroke of my brush, I channeled the serenity of dusk and the introspective moments it cradles. The texture, a tactile topography, invites the viewer to feel the landscape's pulse. This painting is not just a visual experience; it's an invitation to wander through your own reflections, bathed in the tranquil glow that only this time of day can offer, inspiring peace and contemplation in any space it graces.
