This painting is inspired by a sepia-tone photo from about 1880 of a mansion of the Golden Square Mile on Sherbrooke Street in Montréal. Unfortunately, the house was knocked down in 1925 to build Le Château apartments. I tried to keep the antique atmosphere of the photo, yet apply paint generously to give a contemporary feel.
