Located in the heart of Barton Village, Hamilton (Canada) came the inspiration for 'Vintage Charm'

Research was gathered from the Hamilton Public Library using Vernon's Hamilton Street Directory for the years 1896/97 and 1901-1969 to document all businesses of the building. Nixon Grocer was at 313 Barton E from 1912-1922. According to research, there was a grocery store at that location for 73 + years!

Remnants of the custom tile "Nixon Grocer" still remains.

This building was more than grocery stores; it was a gathering place where the local community came together to shop for produce and groceries, and connect with neighbours. It embodied the spirit of Barton Village (Hamilton).

Today, Barton Village is undergoing a remarkable transformation, fueled by a vibrant community of entrepreneurs, makers, creatives, and residents. While many of the old buildings and storefronts are evolving into much-needed urban spaces and housing, the essence of community remains alive and thriving. I was provided a photo of the building with beautiful geraniums in the front window.

The transformation of the Barton Street community is well underway with the large presence of Hamilton Health Sciences - The General Hospital and the new Ron Joyce Children's Health Centre. Barton Village has strong community of entrepreneurs, makers, creatives, innovators and residents. It is a place of unique opportunity, offering close proximity to Hamilton's downtown, a pedestrian-friendly streetscape, classic housing stock, and a growing business network.
