As Avonlea glides through the river by the field, the sun gleaming off her skin, the waves gently crashing against her, she takes in a deep breath of the fresh air and revels in the freedom of the moment. Every splash of the water against her body is a reminder that life is a journey, and she is ready to embrace the ride.

This piece is displaying the beauty of black women and how we age so gracefully. Butterflies are nature’s angels, they remind us what a gift it is to be alive. This is how I feel about black women. We are such enchanted creatures. Truly awakening in our own time.

The Ancestral Intelligence art series by Anishinaabe artist Quinn Hopkins is a collection of digital artworks created using a machine learning algorithm. Hopkins believes that the algorithm allows him to communicate with ancestral spirits, and that the artworks themselves are imbued with the wisdom and knowledge of these ancestors. The series is comprised of abstract images that Hopkins says are inspired by the patterns and colors of traditional Anishinaabe art. Each work is unique, and Hopkins hopes that viewers will be able to see the ancestral spirits that he says are present in the work.
