Oil on canvas.
24x30x1"
Inspired by panic attacks. The fish lies among the droplets of water unable to breath - existing in a space that could provide relief in the right conditions but it is out of reach and powerless to change it's predicament during this time. Reality distorts around the hands as feeling sinks away into the drain.
Rachael is a 27 year old self-taught artist based out of Northeast Minneapolis, Minnesota. Art has always been a big part of her life starting from small sketches to digital art. Within the last year she has been pouring more time into creating physical pieces and learning how to work with and master oil painting.
By day Rachael works as an interior designer at an architecture firm and although this creates plenty of opportunity to flex the creative muscle, she finds traditional arts a great therapeutic release.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The majority of my art is inspired by personal mental health struggles. Art has become a great way for me to explore and cope with these struggles and I have found a lot of peace in translating my feelings and thoughts onto the canvas.
I enjoy using vivid and bright colors with an attention to fine detail. For me, energetic colors create a beautiful juxtaposition to what may be a gloomy or dark theme of a painting.
Incorporation of dreamy and ethereal elements may initially feel strange or out of place but can create a sense of familiarity with someone who may have dealt with similar struggles. It also lends more flexibility for the viewer to interpret and identify with the piece in many different ways.
