Hyeran Lee completed her BFA in Graphic Designer in Korea, as well as studying at Sheridan College. Building on her prior training and career as a graphic designer, she is currently pursuing her skills in painting. She has produced a sizable body of work since the beginning of her full-time painting career. She began her practice by exploring different styles and subjects to find ones that suited her best.
Her recent works are abstract expressionist paintings, often representing an emotional action and an element of eastern philosophy. She is strongly influenced by Abstract Expressionism and
She uses visual elements to express the relationships of everyday life.

Hyeran Lee has been showcased in various juried shows all over the Greater Toronto Area, such as Visual Arts Mississauga, the Ontario Society of Artist’s Emerging Artist, John B. Aird Gallery and Art Works Oakville’s juried shows since 2012.
Her paintings have been featured at the Society of Canadian Artists: Open International Juried On-line Exhibition, and displayed in the SCA 50th open International Juried Exhibition and the Other Fair in Brooklyn in USA. She has also been featured on Saatchiart.com, the world’s largest international online art gallery, for various collections such as: Abstract Expressionism, Cy Twombly Collection, New Minimalist Works, along with recognitions as Best of the Month, and New This Week Correlation.
Her works are held in many private collections across Canada, Germany and United States.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Hyeran Lee’s works are abstract expressionism paintings, often representing an emotional action and an element of eastern philosophy. She is strongly influenced by Abstract Expressionism and she uses visual elements to express the relationships of everyday life. Her works open represent two essentials, yet opposing forces of life: the powerful and the weak. They aim to present the characteristics of metaphysical energy, such as flow, movement, freedom, through contrast of value, colour, space, and varying gesture lines. It is an expression of life through imagery.

In my work, I use colours and shapes in playful and rhythmic movement that contrast a dark and difficult time. This painting serves as a visual reminder to those currently experiencing challenge.
