ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Scent of Amber represents an idea of a mother's connection to children in time and place. By using metal coated string, usually used for hanging paintings, weaved in a basic knitting technique, I created a harness which represents a mother's unbreakable bonds, repetitive routines, and cherished memories with her offspring. The wired harness is adorned with a symbolic amber, semi-precious stone, which revolves around the concept of female empowerment and resilience. I was motivated profoundly by women whom I had a privilege to know, but especially my mom’s perseverance in facing dire situations such as those experienced throughout both WWII and its immediate aftermath. Via "Scent of Amber" I hope to extend gratitude towards every woman standing tall regardless of daunting obstacles thrown onto her path.
