I am a contemporary artist based in Calgary, Alberta. While originally from South Korea, I have lived in all the western Canadian provinces until finally settling down in this vibrant city.

Painting for me is self acceptance. Self acceptance of my sensitivities; to lean into my tendency to react 'too emotionally' with a rose-tinted naivety. It is my self acceptance of my cultural background and the feelings of 'otherness' that I experienced as an immigrant. Instead, now I celebrate my unique, abstract, and idealistic tendencies. Fully embracing these qualities, I aim to explore my artistic voice along with the awe-inspiring nature in my immediate surrounding (I am forever grateful that my parents moved to Canada).

My process begins outside when I explore new scrambly hikes in the Rocky Mountains or foreign landscapes. I aim to capture the essence of these landscapes (i.e., how I felt in the moment; the thoughts that were inspired; and how it impacts the different seasons of my personal life). With the visual and emotional inspiration in mind, I use various medium on raw natural canvas to depict an abstracted scene. There are realistic imagery and even realistic elements like sand to transport the viewer to the experience. I believe that the desire to create is a very innate human tendency and art is a visual language that is universal to everyone.
