ARTIST’S STATEMENT

In my art, I weave together personal reflections and the wonders of the natural world to create whimsical and enchanting landscapes. Growing up, I developed a fear of sharp objects, finding solace in soft, rounded forms that offer comfort and protection. This childhood experience profoundly influences the motifs in my work, as I seek to celebrate the beauty of living forms and the nurturing embrace of nature.

Studying Earth & Environmental Sciences opened my eyes to the intricate interconnectedness of ecosystems, a theme that runs through my paintings. My process involves automatic drawing and painting, allowing my subconscious thoughts and desires to guide the creation of each piece. The spontaneity of this technique enables me to explore my deepest curiosities and obsessions, bringing to life vibrant biomorphic forms that symbolize growth, exploration, and resilience.

Through my art, I invite the audience to step into utopic playgrounds, where organic shapes and reflective spheres offer a sense of comfort, safety, and love. I challenge the flatness of modern technology and city landscapes, advocating for a more tactile and vibrant human experience. I aim to explore the profound connections that shape our world and celebrate the boundless beauty of life.

Catch My Drift was inspired by a cross-cut piece of wood as I was fascinated by its rings which represent the tree's age and history. The painting envisions a world where wood and water intersect, mirroring the tree rings with ripples in water. It symbolizes the cycle of life, decomposition, and regeneration. The wooden crocodile thriving in this environment represents the free-flowing thoughts that shape the artwork.

DuckDuckTrout! is inspired by the childhood game "Duck Duck Goose!" and pays homage to M.C. Escher's mesmerizing tessellations. With a touch of surprise and anticipation, it explores the connections that exist between birds and fish in a seamless dance.
