Rachael Springman

Based in Northeast Minneapolis, Minnesota, Rachael Springman is a self-taught artist who creates work deeply rooted in personal experience and emotional introspection. While art has always played a meaningful role in her life, the past few years have marked a shift toward a more focused and immersive studio practice, resulting in a growing body of physical works.

Drawing inspiration from her own mental health journey, Rachael uses painting as both a therapeutic outlet and a powerful means of communication. Her work often explores complex emotional landscapes, translating intangible thoughts and feelings into vivid, tangible form.

Known for a signature use of bright, energetic colors and fine detail, her style creates a striking contrast between visual vibrancy and the often darker themes at play. Dreamlike, ethereal elements frequently appear throughout her work, inviting viewers into a surreal yet familiar space where difficult emotions are given form and presence.

By day Rachael works as an interior designer at an architecture firm and although this creates plenty of opportunity to flex the creative muscle, she finds traditional arts a great therapeutic release.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The majority of my art is inspired by personal mental health struggles. Art has become a great way for me to explore and cope with these struggles and I have found a lot of peace in translating my feelings and thoughts onto the canvas.

I enjoy using vivid and bright colors with an attention to fine detail. For me, energetic colors create a beautiful juxtaposition to what may be a gloomy or dark theme of a painting.

Incorporation of dreamy and ethereal elements may initially feel strange or out of place but can create a sense of familiarity with someone who may have dealt with similar struggles. It also lends more flexibility for the viewer to interpret and identify with the piece in many different ways.
