Kateryna Kobylianska has been communicating visual research on mind games
since 2018. She is a Ukrainian artist based in Montreal, who explores
concepts of nature, silence, synchronicity, and sincerity.
Her artworks are represented in exhibitions from South Sinai to Barcelona,
from Kyiv to Montreal. They become causes for pauses, where Kateryna
invites the audience. So far the artworks have been shown at 20
expositions. And Kobylianska is taking an active part in art residencies,
interdisciplinary projects.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Kateryna believes that non-figurative art allows viewers to build
their individual interpretations by giving free rein to their imagination.
Or simply the invitation to contemplate the gap between what we see and
how we understand, what we caught.
Using multiple layers of mixed media in her creative process, she paints
using acrylics, watercolors, pastels, and lacquer on a large canvas,
creating abstract paintings.
“My art is eternal research on borders and metaphysic light”, - says
Kateryna.
As of the last events in Ukraine, the prominent question artist is posing is how
to combine the reality of war, which is present in her head, and the reality
of peace, which surrounds her in Canada. That`s what you will observe in her
actual visual research.

It’s a weird question, right? Like, who even thinks about whether their “self” has a center? Most of us are just trying to make it through the day without losing our keys or yelling at the guy who cut us off in traffic. But here we are, pondering.
In the middle, maybe there's something that could be a ‘core’ or maybe it’s just another part of the chaos. It's like trying to find the center of your personality when you’ve got work stress, family drama, and the pressure to pretend you’ve got your life together. It’s confusing, and you’re not sure if you’re supposed to be looking for some deep inner truth or just enjoy the pretty colors. But maybe that’s the point. Maybe there is no single, stable ‘you.’ You’re just a mess of experiences and feelings, and that’s okay. The painting says, “Relax, it’s fine to be a hot mess. Just enjoy the ride.”

In our pursuit of comfort and security, we construct a carefully crafted environment, akin to a Barbie-land, where we lay down metaphorical straw to cushion the blows and make our falls more bearable. This artificial construct initially serves as a refuge, a place where the harsh realities of life seem softened and more manageable.
However, with the passage of time, the allure of this carefully constructed sanctuary begins to wane. The scripted perfection and predictability of our created world become monotonous, and a yearning develops for the raw, unfiltered, and sometimes banal absurdities that characterize ordinary life. It's a thirst for the genuine, the unpredictable, and the beautifully imperfect moments that breathe life into our existence.
This hunger for the mundane absurdity arises when we find ourselves captivated by the unexpected interplay of our emotions. It's in those moments of contradiction and unpredictability that life becomes truly fascinating. The routine and the expected lose their appeal, and the craving for authenticity emerges. This authenticity is found in the everyday chaos, where emotions clash and intertwine, creating a dynamic tapestry of experiences.
Living becomes genuinely interesting when we embrace the fact that we cannot fully control or predict the disorder inherent in the world around us. The unscripted, spontaneous nature of life's absurdities offers a refreshing contrast to the artificial order we often seek to impose on our surroundings. In this paradoxical quest for both safety and genuine experience, we navigate the delicate balance between the comfort of the known and the exhilaration of the unknown.
