Fear-inducing vulnerability in personal expression creates coexisting traits that form an illusion of distorted identity, presented in my work by fragmented faces. Using acrylic, texture, and woven canvas allowed me to cathartically present certain dimensions whilst concealing others. In carving my honest feelings into the portraits, my final work represents the intricacies of emotion and is true to self. My works experimental weaves reflect the process of self discovery and is used as a sort of therapeutic outlet.

I like to describe my abstract expressionist paintings as representations of a deep journey within the self. They speak to the power of vulnerability and a diving deep into your feelings and surroundings. These abstract pieces are connected to the idea of exploration and connecting to our deepest desires and emotions. I believe that when human beings have the ability and time to be vulnerable and self-reflective with their emotions and desires, they become more connected to their individuality and soul.

This piece reflects my journey of recovery from depression. The black and white symbolizes the struggle and mood swings, while the rhinestones represent glimmers of hope breaking through the darkness. I'm so grateful to have created this. Here’s to resilience and new beginnings. 🥂✨

Vulnérable. I used myself as a muse. I wanted to face my recent insecurities
and embrace/showcase the darkness of depression and anxiety.

There are blank periods in our lives, i.e. times when we’ve ended a relationship but haven’t found a new one yet; or left a job we dislike without having a new one lined up. We have to go through these in-between phases, and instead of fearing them, we can use them to reflect, focus on ourselves and make improvement. These are the moments when we have nothing to cling to. We might feel unsettling in these periods, however it’s in these periods that we can grow the most. It’s like rock climbing. Sometimes you have to take a leap to reach higher and achieve your goal.
In this painting, I depicted a female rock climber, whom I can relate to deeply. She’s climbing alone, symbolizing the times in life when we have to face challenges by ourselves. The surrounding landscape is mesmerizing, representing how life, despite its difficulties, can still be incredibly beautiful. I was trying to express through this piece that no matter what happen to your life, embrace the challenges and hardships, meanwhile don’t forget to appreciate the beauty around us.

We live in a world where I, as a female, feel overwhelmed by surrounding pressures which has led to positions of low self esteem and a sense of desperation, particularly how it relates to the way I feel that women are treated in our society. This work was created as a personal therapeutic outlet, as a relatable work of art for the countless other women in my shoes, as well as to allow for a space to promote and highlight this pervasive societal injustice. This work allows the viewer a portal into someone’s life. A woman suffering under the pressures and expectations of society and the negative impact that that has on oneself and on the people around them. The irony being in her ability to care for the life around her but not being able to care for herself.

I created work that portrays strong emotions, personally, and societally represents and perhaps confronts the "traditional duties" of women. I definitely think hands tell the story of human beings and are very powerful imagery when representing the human subject. The dark colour scheme offers a sense of drama that one would not usually associate with such mundane, simple tasks.
This image portrays a visceral reaction of pain as the viewer can imagine the moment before squeezing a cactus with the spikes ready to enter the flesh. This picture is meant to make the viewer feel uncomfortable as they imagine the pain felt in this depiction. I think the cactus also looks almost phallic, a symbolism I used to depict the "woman's duty to pleasure".

For me, squeezing a sponge is gross. Even looking at this image gives me a very visceral reaction. From a societal point of view, the sponge represents the "woman's duty to clean".

I focus a lot on the hands which are able to powerfully tell a story of an individual. I represent different stages of life and the different lessons and feelings that can be connoted within them.
'Living' features an adult hand reaching through the growing foliage, connoting the lessons, growth, and beauty acquired through living a life.
