Mixed Media (collage, charcoal, paint pens, vinyl gouache) .
Christine Delay is a recent winner of the Beaumont Studios “Artist to Watch Award” and the first ever recipient of the “D.L Stevenson Award” for best painter. Currently living on the west coast of Canada, the artist in question was raised in a small town in Northern Ontario. As a teenager she discovered her talent for anything creative, and though her small town did not house galleries or an art scene, she found her influences in pop culture, something that is still present in her work today. Some of these influences include but are not limited to: Rolling Stone Magazine, Diane Arbus, SNL, Much Music, Kurt Cobain, Television (the band as well as the apparatus), Punk posters, bathroom graffiti, Mad Magazine, The Simpsons, Robert Rauschenberg, The Alchemist, Fight Club, Andy Warhol, Allen Ginsberg, The Clash, Mitch Hedberg, and basically anything left of center. Her preferred mediums are collage, paint pens, charcoal, and vinyl gouache which all amount to the mixed media style she is known for.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Christine's artistic practice is an inquiry into the intersection between collective reality and individual perception.
Her artwork delves into several recurring themes, such as memory, childhood, connection, humor, and pop culture. By exploring these themes, Christine creates artwork that captures a unique blend of the familiar and the surreal, encouraging viewers to question and re-examine their perceptions of the world around them.
Through her use of mixed media and various mark-making techniques, Christine's artwork is distinctive in its ability to transcend traditional boundaries and create a unique visual language. Her art is an exploration of the mind's inner workings and an invitation to join her on a journey of self-discovery.
