ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My goal in painting and art in general is to express an inner thought or emotion and make this concrete and available to the viewer. In other words to objectify the subjective.
Almost all of my paintings are concepts as opposed to depictions of an event or landscape and as such are impressions expressed as metaphors rather than reality. Considerable effort is spent legitimizing these inventions to forward questions such as where or who am I that I witness this scene or event.
My current technique of using egg tempera and oils in various mixtures, is attributed to extensive reading, and experiments with the materials used by “Old Masters” like the Van Eycks and Albrecht Durer to other more contemporary painters and researchers such as Max Doerner or Daniel Thompson Jr.
