Lisa grew up in Guelph, Ontario. Lisa is a first-generation Canadian. Her parents hail from Florence, Italy. Her parent's great love for art inspired her.
She has wanted to be an artist for as long as she can remember.
Stories told by her mom and grandmother and fairytale books given to her by her father gave her a love for stories. Through these stories, she gained a deep appreciation for a non-existent world where anything that seems impossible can be possible.
Lisa Martini-Dunk is a formally trained fine artist and graphic designer graduating with honours.
Lisa created her visions with printmaking and scratchboard. She won a poster contest for 2019 for National Purebred Dog Day,
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
An·thro·po·mor·phism (ān'thrə-pə-môr'fĭz'əm)
n. Attribution of human motivation, characteristics, or behaviour to inanimate objects, animals, or natural phenomena.
Scratchboards lend themselves beautifully to telling the story of how
animals and humans are connected. Animals expose the transparency of innocence and the authenticity of emotion. On the other hand, humans devote much of their time to masking their essence and true selves due to their vulnerability. Illustrating human emotions and experiences through this anthropomorphism. A playfulness quality shows that the unimaginable and unreasonable can become sensible and absolute. Satire with my animals to expose human folly . I want and hope to connect the viewer to the untainted spirit that lies within and take them back to the unlimited imagination of childhood.
