Natalie Ho, also known as Natalie Sze Wai, is a Toronto-based visual artist originally from Hong Kong. With a diverse arts background encompassing scenic art, dance, and visual art, Natalie has cultivated a unique artistic perspective and gained valuable experience in various creative disciplines.
In 2020, Natalie completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree in Theatre and Entertainment Arts with First Class Honours from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). During her time at HKAPA, she honed her skills and developed a strong foundation in artistic expression.
Natalie's artistic journey has taken her across continents, as she pursued internships at esteemed institutions in the United Kingdom. As an intern scenic artist at the Royal Opera House and National Theatre, she had the opportunity to contribute to the creation of visually stunning stage sets. These experiences allowed her to further enhance her technical skills and expand her artistic repertoire.
In addition to her work in scenic art, Natalie has showcased her talent as a dancer with the renowned "Dance Beyond Dance" ballet group in Hong Kong. Through dance, she has explored the intersection of movement and visual expression, adding depth and dynamism to her artistic practice.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Natalie's artistic focus lies primarily in realism and portraiture, with a particular emphasis on highlighting women who challenge traditional societal norms. Through her vibrant and intricate pieces, she aims to capture the essence of her subjects and convey their strength and resilience. Her artwork draws inspiration from the beauty found in everyday life, celebrating the diversity and complexity of human experiences.
As an Asian female artist, Natalie recognizes the significance of using her artwork as a platform to defy societal expectations and promote self-expression. Her pieces serve as a means of empowerment, encouraging viewers to question and challenge prevailing norms. By portraying women who challenge traditional roles and stereotypes, Natalie aims to inspire others to embrace their own unique identities and break free from societal constraints.
One of Natalie's recent series is titled "HOME。KONG," which explores the nostalgic longing for our birthplace and the significance of our roots. Through this series, she delves into the complex emotions associated with cultural identity and the longing for a sense of belonging. The vibrant colors and intricate details in her artwork serve as nourishment for our souls, reminding us of where we come from and the importance of staying connected to our cultural heritage.
Natalie actively engages in public art projects, such as the StreetARToronto bell box mural, and participates in different art programs like the "VIEWS program" by Next Generation Arts, where she serves as a youth facilitator, contributing to the community. Notably, she played a significant role in the success of the Golden Girls mural as part of the Cultural Hotspot Signature Project in Scarborough during the summer and fall of 2022.
Her latest portrait painting, titled "Fearless," was selected and exhibited in the prestigious "IMPACT 2023 Exhibition" at the NPCC galleries. Additionally, her work has been featured in the "We Resilient 2023 Juried Art Show" at Arts Etobicoke. Natalie's artistic contributions have earned her recognition as one of the emerging artists in the Vibe Arts program.
Inspired by Toronto's multicultural scene, Natalie's creativity continues to evolve, driving her artistic journey forward.
