ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Through my different painting series I want to
chronicle how the everyday objects around us transform
and convey their own unique narratives. My
realistic acrylic paintings pay homage to the sweet
disorder and chaos that surrounds us; they are an
integral part of our living spaces whether indoors
and out. I enjoy creating art that makes people take a second
look at their everyday surroundings and transforms
their perceptions of it.

'Pierrot le Fou' is a mythical character who pines for the love of Columbine. A sad clown, sweet and innocent, a dreamer reaching for the moon, in David Bowie’s words he symbolized “Everyman”.
He will do whatever he can to win love, only to be forever frustrated. When I discovered this 1985 Czech marionette, with such a lovelorn look, I could see he was only waiting for that special someone to bring him to life.

‘Two in the Afternoon’ plays with two ideas. On first glance the painting shows the beauty of afternoon light shining on the old kitchen sink tiles, playing with the distortion of the black square patterns through the glass. The other interpretation is about what the scene intimates; what might have happened at that time - 2 pm in the afternoon.
