This painting is loosely based on a variety of different images of lilies. My aim with this painting was to capture the feeling of light and shadow. I used subdued colors for the first few layers based on color theory and the use of complementary colors and then bumped up the contrast with vibrant colors in the final layers with added highlights. I kept my brushstrokes light and dynamic and did not overwork little details and allowed the “mistakes” to be part of the character of the painting.

For my last painting in the series, I decided to paint a conch shell. I simplified the dips and crevices to shapes and areas of dark and light. I wanted the shell to be almost luminous and so I used gold paint in some places.

This botanical painting was inspired by my monstera plant and is composed of several layers. I started it off with acrylic for the initial sketch and the first couple of layers and then used water mixable oil for the last few layers.

For my fifth painting in the series, I wanted to explore monochromatic tonal values using a very limited color palette. I chose different combinations of ultramarine blue and cyan blue for the background, and phthalocyanine blue for the pear. The varying degrees of blue gave the whole painting a very moody atmosphere while still showing the different values of blue.

For this painting, I was inspired by the disco ball trend, popularized by Sari Shryack (Not Sorry Art). I used a small disco ball that my daughter had as a reference. Disco balls are colorless and often reflect the color of the space they are in. I wanted mine to reflect happy bright colors of purple, pink and yellows.

This painting is based on my coleus plant and is more of an impressionist rendition rather than an accurate representation. The blue background contrasts well with the green foliage and the magenta interior of the leaves.

Still Life with Cactus, Acrylic painting on stretched canvas, original artwork, 16" x 12". This is a variation on Van Gogh's Still Life with Almond Flowering Branch. I used similar elements in the composition (such as the bright magenta book and the background and table top) but I decided to use my Easter cactus plant instead of Van Gogh's almond branch. This is varnished with a satin varnish and will arrive ready to hang.

This mini painting, Magnolia Study II, of a pink magnolia flower blossoming on a tree branch with buds and green leaves is painted with acrylic paint on a bright teal green background. The legend, the icon, the immortal...Frida Kahlo! For all her fame and genius, this is how I see Frida; surrounded by her birds and monkeys and flowers. Always flowers. She belongs to them as much as they belong to her. This painting was done in acrylic and soft pastels.

This floral painting of irises is my ode to spring and love of gardening. It was created in an impressionist, almost abstract style with very frantic dynamic brushstrokes to imitate the flowing movements of iris petals. A palette knife was used for the highlights and gold paint was used for the center of the flowers to contrast with the purples and pinks. The background and the flower buds are my favourite part of this painting.

An ode to the Wild West vistas depicted in contemporary shows such as "Yellowstone" and "The English". The mountains were done by a heavy application of oil using a palette knife. The texture is such that they almost jut out of the canvas making them the focal point. The bison were added as a background element and to portray a sense of nostalgia.

This painting is an amalgamation of different images. The dark and moody background and the jug are contrasted with the brightness of the fruit. Smooth static brushstrokes were used with highlights and shadows to indicate the reflection of the fruit on the jug and table. This will make a nice addition to a kitchen or dining area.

Stemming from my fascination with the southwestern desert in the US, this painting is my homage to that alien, other worldly beauty of that landscape. In order to achieve the texture of the sky I used a finger painting technique to recreate a sky that is streaked with sunset hues.

Loosely based on a photograph by one of my favorite National Geographic photographers, Stephen Wilkes, this painting was done using Winsor and Newton water-mixable oil paints. I love stormy skies and in another life I might have been a storm chaser. The focal point is the overwhelming and almost cavernous, cloud-filled sky. This is juxtaposed with the horse, intentionally painted in a much smaller scale to give the sense of distance and being swallowed up by the sky. The image is almost peaceful for all its ominous undertones.
