Born in Oakville Ontario, Matthew Garby studied Drawing and Painting at the Ontario College of Art and Design University, graduating in 2017.
He lives and works in Toronto, Ontario.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Matthew Garby is a Toronto based Painter. His works are an investigation into representations of (seemingly) concrete ages and situations as well as depictions and ideas that can only be realized in painting.
The inherent visual seductiveness is the product of relating the cultural and artistic history of images and their popular interpretations in a memetic way, creating work that is simultaneously fresh and familiar.
