Paul Newman, as Butch Cassidy, spray painted over memorabilia from the movie. (i.e. wanted posters)
Tim Summerfield was raised in San Diego, the son of an art director at an ad agency. In High School he took college credit art classes and college life drawing classes. He got accepted to Pratt in New York, but ultimately graduated from USC in Los Angeles with a BFA.
While always doing art as self therapy, it wasn't until 2018 that he started the latest collection with the intent of commercial viability. Since then, he's appeared in Not Another Art Fair in 2022, and has had his art featured in two restaurants, with many notable buyers/commissions in the Brentwood, Palisades and Bel-Air areas.
This collection, in order to achieve the desired result, expanded Tim's influence from graffiti artists, such as Retna, Big Sleeps and even Greg Auerbach.
In the future, Tim sees more abstract and/or political based work, but so far is enjoying bright fun pieces people enjoy in any atmosphere.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
For this collection, Tim wanted the viewer to see the small image through a related bigger picture. To achieve that, with color consistency, he needed to use transparent spray paint. The images themselves start conversations within like-minded parties, but also let a solo admirer notice minutia. De Stijl border lines on the pieces serve to provide image structure as well as to bring the viewers eye back into the art. This technique is unique to the artwork of Tim Summerfield.
