Margaret’s an international artist and graduate of the Sheridan College Art Fundamentals Program. She showed an interest in art and a love for nature, at an early age. She’s a city girl who prefers to be in the country, with a love for animals and art which transitioned into becoming a wildlife artist.

Margaret’s creative process starts with her original photographs of nature, and then takes the best images to work up for her composition to use as references for her artwork. She looks to depict animals as they naturally are, wild and free.

Margaret’s current medium of choice is scratchboard which started with a one day workshop many years ago. Scratchboard is a subtractive medium where she scratches the black surface (India ink) creating details and texture, uncovering the white clay surface from underneath, which she paints using inks or watercolours to colour the image. The art work is then finished off with several coates of an acrylic UV resistant spray to protect the surface. She continues to grow and develop her techniques, taking on new challenges.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Tree swallows compete with House sparrows for nesting territory and usually loss to the House Sparrow. The Tree Swallow in this piece has won the battle in this one as the Tree Swallows out numbered the House Sparrows and they didn't have a chance.
