Mixed media with oil on canvas.
20x30"
This beautiful soft magnolia is waiting for that perfect moment to open. This piece draws on memories, looking back in a dream like state. It is created on a cradled wood panel with spray paint and oil. Nature's branches and flowers were the stencil for the background.
Leah Olsen-Kent is an oil painter and nature enthusiast from Cambridge Ontario. She studied fine art at both the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design and the Ontario College of Art & Design. Leah is constantly in search of those serene quiet moments that define the essence of the natural world. Exploring those moments (objects) is what compels Leah to create. Each painting begins as a black and white and as the layers build, so does the depth and contrast. The paintings become a portal to nature's quietude, inviting observers to immerse themselves in the beauty that might often go unnoticed in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My work is about pushing the boundaries of feelings and memories to capture pure yet simple moments through a minimalist or monochromatic colour palette. Each painting begins with the background being spray painted using leaves, flowers, branches and seed pods as stencils. A detailed image is then painted over the surface, capturing that perfect moment and feeling, the essence of the outdoors.
