Found objects, upcycled thrift items, air ink pollution markers, naturally hand dyed fabrics.

"Sea Cycle" was created during a month long artist residency at Studio H in Metchosin, Brittish Columbia, Canada, in 2021. Melanie drove across Canada from Toronto, ON, to Victoria, BC, to experience the landscape and be immersed within the natural surroundings, only packing basic art materials and hand tools. During her self-directed artist residency Melanie collected second hand items, plastic waste and recyclables from the shores, and natural items to create this unique landscape. This sculptural painting was created in response to Melanie’s surroundings, local materials, and found objects. This work was created by using up-cycled thrift store items, found objects, air-ink pollution markers, natural items including hand dyed fabrics from local berries, and recyclables.
